TENNA STAR
Born in
Kingston, Jamaica from a family of nine, Tenna Star grew up in the
Red Hills Road area where he spent his early singing life. He
credits his mother has being the back bone for all his achievements,
from his early stages of development as a singer when he would hear
her singing continuously everyday.The
word of God was taught and sang daily in his house and his first
band was a gospel group called The Tenns Brothers which was formed
by his mother and consisted of Tennas older brother and his younger
brother Mark Tenn who is also a prominent force in the music
business.
After leaving high school Tenna began
doing odd jobs here and there mainly graphic designing, which he was
quite good at, but singing was always in his blood and every
opportunity he got he was always singing.
Tenna’s earliest experience in the
dance hall was singing on numerous Sound Sytems including Crystal,
Rambo International, Playmate, Small Axe and Kilimanjaro singing
alongside artist such as Red Dragon, Flourgon, Daddy Lizard,
Sanchez, Buju Banton, Terry Ganzie, Courtney Melody and Mr .Vegas.
His first song was recorded on the
Powermatic label [Danny Brownie studios] entitled ‘Close to you’ he
then went on to record for various record label such as Sir Guy
label, New Name Records, GG records where he teamed up with Norris
Man, but it was Kilimanjaro studios [Dub Store] what became his home
and where he gained great respect and popularity.
In 1994 Tina Starr arrival in England
and wasted no time in gaining instant recognition and fame in the
Birmingham/London areas His talent was quickly discovered by various
record producers ie: Stingray Records of which he recorded ‘’Blessed
Be’’ which gain great popularity for him in the U.K, he also went on
to record a duet with Judge Dread from the So Solid Crew and a track
entitled ‘African Princess’ for producer Murray Man which was a
popular tune in Europe which also gave him the opportunity to tour
with UK. recording artist/producer. Murray Man in [Switzerland &
Sweden].
Live performances are one of the main
forte of Tenna Star and he has supported a host of giants in the
music industry, such as John Holt, Freddie McGregor, Beres Hammond,
Marcia Griffths, Sanchez and Mikey Spice just to name but a few.
In January 2007 he joined Hypnotic
Management Incorporated
And is currently recording tracks for
his debut album which is Scheduled for release
Feb 08.Featuring collaborations with
Vybz Kartel, Sly + Robbie and Pow Pow Movement with more (tba).
